Confessions of an “Outdoor Geek”
February 21, 2008
What can I say?
I love outdoor. I’ve loved it from the moment I saw a 14’x48’ billboard being hand-painted in ABC Outdoor’s shop. I was overwhelmed by its sheer size and surprised by how BIG it really was when I was close to it.
That was 20 years ago, and I’m still in love with outdoor.
Riding in a car with an outdoor geek can be an experience. We never get over that “perfect board.”
We don’t soon forget the bulletin with the perfect, unobstructed approach. Then there’s the one that we drive “right into.” Or, the one that’s a “header” and “hits us” right between the eyes. And we can’t forget the cross-traffic reader with the perfect angle viewed while the road curves right into it. No, we don’t forget.
When we see a perfect board and even if we’re alone in the car, we smile, we smack the driving wheel in joy and raise a fist in victory. Words like “beautiful” escape from our lips . . . yes, we rejoice in perfection.
This is our passion. More next time . . .
Out-of-Home Geek regards,
Linda Tooke
